Summary

What will it take to stop a war?

King Wu's dreams of peacefully transitioning the Earth Kingdom into a democracy are in danger when Commander Guan throws his political hat in the ring, hoping to subvert the new system from the inside out。 But playing fair was never part of his plan; Guan and Dr。 Sheng are using terrifying new technology to cement Guan's win! In a desperate attempt to save the Earth Kingdom from falling back into the dark days of conquest and empire, Korra and Kuvira convince an old friend to return and take the former commander on in the polls。 But will it be enough?

Written by series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino and illustrated by Michelle Wong (Goosebumps: Download and Die), with consultation by Bryan Konietzko, this is the ultimate continuation of the beloved television series!

This wasn't bad but wasn't anything special。 I liked that most of the geniuses in this series are women (Zhu Li, Asami, Kuvira, the brainwashing lady)。 We get to see Kuvira struggle to be taken seriously by the "good" guys and Wu struggle with his confidence in his decisions, but otherwise there isn't a lot of character development。 This is more in line with season 2 of the show, quality wise rather than 1, 3 and 4 which I loved more。 This wasn't bad but wasn't anything special。 I liked that most of the geniuses in this series are women (Zhu Li, Asami, Kuvira, the brainwashing lady)。 We get to see Kuvira struggle to be taken seriously by the "good" guys and Wu struggle with his confidence in his decisions, but otherwise there isn't a lot of character development。 This is more in line with season 2 of the show, quality wise rather than 1, 3 and 4 which I loved more。 。。。more

Again another great read I’m really enjoying how fast these comic sky and Kuvira was one of my favourite characters。 However I am surprised at how nice she is being as she is getting a lot of stick (even though she was literally evil) but she takes it all perfectly which I really enjoy。 The brainwashing is an interesting point and I’m really enjoying how much Wu and Mako are together。 :3

If you want more of The Legend of Korra this is your series you might want to read Turf Wars first though。 It will contain major SPOILERS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Overall, I enjoyed Turf Wars a little more than this one, but I’ve always really enjoyed Kuvira’s character。 I appreciate learning more about her past, and I’m really glad she got a chance to redeem herself。 Also, am I the only person who just despises Opal?? I actually get so angry every time she says something。 Bolin deserves better。

Read the trilogy like one book, deferring review until third book。

I’m not a big fan of mind control plots。。。

Unrated out of 5 stars。 Ruins of the Empire is the best arc of the LoK and ATLA comics that I’ve read so far! The complexity of the emotions and relationships of all the primary characters here, the political implications to the Earth Kingdom and the Avatar world overall and the character development overall is so superior! I’ve loved reading this so far and I’m sad it’s about to come to an end。

3。5When Legend of Korra calls back to the original Avatar series, sometimes it can feel like DAMN, STAND ON YOUR OWN。 However, I love seeing Toph back in the spotlight in this volume。 I really enjoyed all the action between Korra and Kuvira against the Guan troops。 I'm ready to see how this brainwashing is going to be handle and if the gang can get back together again。 But what I'm really ready is for this to end! 。。。more

*4。5Oooh, stuff is REALLY picking up! I like this expansion of technology we saw in ATLA, and the Kuvira stuff is compelling。 That stuff with Wu and the swamp was great too。 I'm looking forward to seeing how this'll all go down。 4。5/5 stars。 *4。5Oooh, stuff is REALLY picking up! Unexpected twists! A great part two!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 (Read all 3 parts)I have some strong opinions about Kuvira's arc。 *Spoilers*I really think she should have stayed in Prison。 Even with her assistance with Guan I personally don't think that was enough to redeem her。 Yes, she's under house arrestBUT SHE LITERALLY MURMURED OR ASSISTED IN THE MURDER OF PEOPLE。 Not to mention all of her other atrocious crimes。 Also not a fan of how they coerced Toph into running for governor。 Like。。。 what?! At first, the brainwashing plot didn't sit well with me。 It seemed very cliché and out-of-the-blue。 But the more I think about it, the more in-line it is with season two of the original series, and I appreciate that callback。 Overall, I like this comic a lot! If so, should the others be allowed to kill them to defend themselves? How far can one go? There are no easy answers to these questions。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I don’t believe Kuriva when she says she wouldn’t have sanctioned this brainwashing tactic if she had known about it。 Of course she would have! Nothing in the show indicated she would oppose ‘inhumane’ treatment like that。 She did a lot of other inhumane stuff including sending people to re-education camps to begin with…Still doesn’t make sense for Toph to run for governor if she hates the idea。The brainwashing seems like it would be a complex and traumatic thing to recover from, slowly, which t I don’t believe Kuriva when she says she wouldn’t have sanctioned this brainwashing tactic if she had known about it。 Of course she would have!
